Bagpipes, bhangra music, and cheers filled the air of the GGD SD College Auditorium as students, faculty, staff, and distinguished guests celebrated student success at UFV India’s 13th Annual Awards Ceremony.
More than 6.7 Lakh rupees in awards were distributed to deserving students in the categories of entrance scholarship, continued academic achievement, and overall academic excellence.
UFV President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Joanne MacLean, visiting UFV India for the first time, spoke to achievements and incredible potential for UFV India students.
“You are wonderful examples of the youthful spirit of a nation that is on the eve of remarkable growth. You will do well in Canada as you have done well in your accomplishments here.”
“Your spirit, your drive, and your intelligence will benefit the UFV community, your family, and the future of our world.”
UFV Chancellor Dr. Andy Sidhu, also visiting UFV India for the first time, spoke of the potential students have to make positive change.
“Education is a vital root of the growing tree of India’s success and our global success. We know that with the knowledge you have acquired, you will make a positive impact in your chosen country, whether it be India or Canada.”
“UFV India is truly dedicated to making the journey for students successful. UFV’s commitment to educating students as global citizens starts right here.”
Students Aditya Setya, Srishti Arora, Sargam, Tushar Malhotra, and Prerna Arora were summoned to the stage by a cheering crowd for earning entrance scholarships based on exceptional achievement in their class 12 exams.

Additional awards totalling INR 2,75,000 for continued academic excellence were distributed to 10 outstanding students for their hard work in the 2017-18 school year.
Students Manpreet Singh and Kabir Singh Mann were awarded Opinder Dhaliwal Academic Excellence Awards each worth INR 24,000. Honoring former UFV India student Opinder Dhaliwal who passed-away in 2015, the award is given to students who match or exceed Opinder’s exceptional graduating 4.03 CGPA.
Participants of the 2018 Student Company Program and students who completed summer internships were also recognized.
UFV India Principal, Satwinder Bains, presented two surprise awards before the curtains closed.
Dr. Shyam Babu Vyas, Professor of Marketing and Business, was awarded a UFV Teaching Excellence Award for his dedication to student success. The honor was determined by a vote of all UFV India faculty members.
Mr. Sanjeev Singh, Senior Recruiting Officer, was awarded the Outstanding Employee Service Award for his outstanding six years of service to UFV India.
“Dream big about how you’re going to change the world”, Bains announced to the crowd. “Knowledge is power. Your education is what you make out of that knowledge.”
